Quality Assurance Technician - 1 year contract

JOB PURPOSE / OBJECTIVE

The Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for assuring that safe and quality foods are produced by performing all quality control tests and tasks in accordance with Que Pasa’s Quality Assurance Standards. The QA Tech is responsible for recording test results, taking appropriate actions when production and/or quality issues arise, and maintaining an accurate log of daily activities. The QA Tech must also work with other departments and management with quality issues, and be knowledgeable on Que Pasa products, texture, taste, color and ingredients.

CRITICAL OUTCOMES FROM THE JOB

Assuring that safe and quality foods are produced by:

  • Interpret, implement and maintain quality assurance/quality control standards and procedures
  • Assist in developing/modifying quality assurance’s policies, procedures as well as production parameters
  • Develop, recommend and monitor corrective and preventative actions
  • Check batch sheets to ensure that the correct formulation and material is used for the company production requirements
  • Conduct processing, chip, and packaging checks, as well as sanitation checks
  • Perform all quality control tests in accordance with the established standards and systems to ensure that the finished products fall within the company requirements
  • Inspect and analyze raw materials in accordance with established quality standards and systems
  • Report all variances verbally and in the form of a report to communicate outcomes of quality and safety activities
  • Hold all raw materials, WIP and finished products that fail to meet the established standards as per HOLD and RELEASE procedure, and seek and finalize disposition on held items
  • Maintain accurate records and files of all quality control tests and tasks
  • Ensure Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) are carried out by all employees
  • Plan and co-ordinate all third party lab testing activities
  • Ensure all parameters are recorded with documentation during R&D runs
  • Attend and participate in production transition meetings and QA meetings
  • Investigate customer complaints and draft written responses following the E-power Center program
  • Collect and compile statistical quality data
  • Analyze data to identify areas for improvement in the quality system
  • Prepare, document and assist in evaluating internal audit findings and implement corrective actions
  • Assure on-going compliance with product safety and quality, customers and regulatory requirements
  • Abide by all safety rules and safety regulations as set by Que Pasa Mexican Foods
  • Follow all aspects of the Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) program
  • Know where the MSDS is located and how to read them
  • Know what safety equipment is needed to perform a specific job task
  • Has the knowledge of what chemicals are used to clean specific equipment

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education

  • Diploma or degree in food science, biology, or other natural science preferred

Experience

  • 6-12 months experience in a quality control in a food processing environment is preferred
  • Strong technical aptitude for assisting in implementing new testing methodology and high tech testing equipment
  • Working knowledge of food safety and QA programs, such as SQF, HACCP, GMPs
  • A team approach to problem solving and implementation, as well as personal initiative and independent judgment are necessary
  • Basic math skills required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Well developed interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently in English language, and understand directions, both verbally and written

The team member is required to be on their feet for large portions of the day and move throughout all areas of the plant, including up and down stairs. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more. While undertaking the essential duties and responsibilities of the position, the employee must repeatedly sit, listen, speak, be able to answer a telephone, enter and retrieve data from a standard desktop computer, as well as utilize other high tech equipment.

Occasional exposure to noise, mobile equipment, airborne dust, high humidity, and extremes of hot and cold are possible in the plant environment. Must be able to work 12 hour rotating shifts, including nights and weekends, as well as overtime as required.
