About The Opportunity

As Purchasing Manager, you will drive the operational objectives and provide transactional and strategic leadership for the organization’s materials planning, procurement and inventory management systems.

Critical Outcomes for this role:

 1. Create a materials plan and sourcing strategy that extracts great value from the excellent relationships with our vendors by:

  • Working with cross-functional groups to understand all budgetary and forecast considerations.
  • Working with the buyers to ensure vendors are meeting the quality, cost and service requirements of the organization
  • Develop short term (monthly and annual) and long-term (multi-year) sourcing strategies to ensure the raw material demands are met on a continual basis  
  • Developing new sources of supply and approving new vendors as required to meet long-term supply and cost needs
  • Work directly with buyers and oversee all supply contracts and agreements 
  • Negotiate supply contracts including raw material, carton, flexible packaging and corrugate.
  • Produce reports that support the raw material contracting process to meet annual needs and initiatives
  • Manage Supplier visit plan, schedule and supporting docs. 
  • Re-evaluate materials plan on a regular basis to identify gaps against the annual plan and to drive necessary actionable steps
  • Support packaging projects initiated by R&D and marketing following NP sustainable packaging guidelines.

 
2. Manage a high-functioning planning and inventory management system to meet current and future demands by:

  • Obtaining the long term direction of the business along with Director to understand future needs.
  • Working with Systems implementation team to develop system specifications for each site.
  • Developing systems (using forecasting and/or inventory based systems) to ensure forecasted levels of RM are maintained at all manufacturing locations
  • Monitor and report operational compliance issues to the system and support system upgrades to ensure they are well communicated, documented and built in to users’ capabilities. 

3. Maintain accurate raw material, WIP and finished goods inventory records by:

  • Working with the support of Logistics to ensure FG inventories are reconciled to NP records on a regular basis (at a minimum on a monthly basis)
  • In collaboration with finance, plant operations and logistics develop a robust cycle counting procedure for execution at all production and distribution sites. 
  • Assist the plant and logistics resources to execute an effective cycle count program. 
  • Assist the plant production control to ensure that material is issued on a timely and accurate basis in the operating environment. 
  • Working with finance and the manufacturing facilities to conduct annual physical inventory counts as required.
  • Working with the buyers to ensure alignment with the master schedule and the inventory management goals

 

Success in this role will require:

Education

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a related discipline preferred, or other job-related or equivalent business experience.

 Experience

  • 5 years experience in a manufacturing setting   
  • Must be functionally competent with production and materials planning systems  
  • Previous purchasing experience preferred 
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred 
  • A demonstrated ability in key software applications such as EXCEL, Power-point, and Word
